Years have come and gone since Cosco, Stewart Superior and others produced the first tiny "plastic" pocket Rubber Stamp. It was large enough as I remember to imprint about three lines of tiny 6 point letters for a small Address Stamp. The pad inside the pocket stamp was a tiny layer of felt and it contained about 6 drops of ink similar to ideal ink. Though the stamper worked ok, it lacked very much in giving the user a nice rubber stamped impression. It would not have been acceptable by modern rubber stamping standards.
Major players in the Mobile Stamp or Pocket Stamp offerings today are Trodat®, Xstamper® and Shiny®. They all make ideal stampers for fast paced individuals that need a rubber stamp signature, rubber stamp notary imprint or address stamper while on the go.

The Xstamper C42 has been a favorite for years for notaries to carry their notary impression with them in pocket or purse or briefcase. The small notary printers by Xstamper are used through out the USA and abroad and are a very popular choice.

Maybe the idea came from the old Ideal Pocket Stamp which was manufactured in France and distributed by M & R in the United States. It could be opened and then pressed to imprint with one hand. The Trodat Mobile Stamp 9400 series works the same way. With a simple pinch the stamper opens in a triangular shape to stamp its imprint. This printer uses a traditional die plate to do the printing. This item has sold over a million units at the press time of this article and it has only been on the market a couple years. This mobile Pocket Rubber Stamp truly has a unique design and is becoming popular in the health industry where nurses or doctors need to repeatedly print a signature or just imprint their name on one line in mobile applications.
Who comes up with the next new design remains to be seen. But if you need a pocket stamp for mobile applications these stamp choices by Xstamper, Shiny or Trodat are most likely to give you the best rubber stamped impression.
